Both teams were strong on the mound on Monday, but the Western Mass Pioneers were just a little bit stronger at the plate in their 3-2 victory over the Hamden Miners. Hamden was right in it until the Pioneers scored on a wild pitch in the sixth inning.

Sawyer Dimatteo started the game for Hamden. He was in trouble early as a single on the seventh pitch of the at-bat put the Pioneers on the board in the bottom of the first. The Miners captured the lead, 2-1, in the top of the sixth after Western Mass committed an error, and Hamden scored on a wild pitch.

DiMatteo’s final line was four hits and one run over four innings, striking out one and walking one. Adam Guenther took the loss for the Miners. He went one inning, giving up two runs, neither of which were earned, on zero hits, striking out two and walking two. Those two unearned runs would be the nail in the coffin for Hamden as they would lose by a score of 3-2.
