Strong Hitting Not Enough As Hamden Miners Fall To West Haven Sailors

The West Haven Sailors defeated the Hamden Miners 8-4 on Saturday at West Haven High School.

Hamden was the first to get on the board in the first when Nico DiGioia doubled, scoring one run. Then, the Sailors captured the lead, 4-1, in the bottom of the first when an error scored two runs, Hersh singled, scoring one run, and an error scored one run.

West Haven added to their early lead in the bottom of the third inning when Derek Porto drew a walk, scoring one run, Andrew Keeler was struck by a pitch, driving in a run, and an error scored two runs.

Jack Lewis took the loss for Hamden. The starting pitcher went one inning, allowing four runs (one earned) on two hits, striking out one and walking one. Darren Gasparri, the number nine hitter for Hamden, led the way with two runs batted in. The left-handed hitter went 1-for-2 on the day.
