Junior starter Joshua Santiago shined Thursday night in the Miners 5-0 win over the Silverbacks. With five innings of no-hit pitching and nine strikeouts, he put Hamden in a prime position for a big win as his stuff was working all night.
Hamden struck first after Devon McMorris scored on a Waterbury wild pitch. The designated hitter tallied three hits on the day, including a double to tally up four total bases and adding a stolen base as well.
Left fielder AJ Aurora, who had two hits in the game, notched an RBI single in the second to give Hamden a 2-0 lead. A sacrifice fly by third baseman Tyler Kornacki in the third extended the lead to 3-0. More insurance was added with center fielder Kyle Cyr’s RBI single in the fifth.
The McIntire brothers, Adam and Aaron combined for two innings of one-hit relief to shut the door. A timely offense and excellent pitching from the three arms, especially Santiago, was key in the Miners victory.
Hamden will carry their momentum into the weekend as their next game is a road matchup versus the Glastonbury Arrows on Sunday evening.
