Nico DiGioia’s Clutch Hitting Propels Hamden Miners to Victory Over Silk City Sluggers

Nico DiGioia drove in five runs on three hits to lead the Hamden Miners past the Silk City Sluggers 13-0 on Monday. DiGioia hit a grand slam in the first inning, scoring four runs, and singled in the fourth inning, scoring one.

Hamden won thanks in part to 10 runs in the first inning. Yammy Perez doubled, scoring one run, Devon McMorris singled, scoring one run, Kyle Cyr drew a walk, scoring one run, Matt Cinque singled, scoring one run, Andrew Flamini was struck by a pitch, driving in a run, Darren Gasparri grounded out, scoring one run, and Nico DiGioia hit a grand slam.

Zion Fraser earned the win for Hamden. The hurler allowed zero hits and zero runs over two innings, striking out one and walking one. John Slais and Adam Guenther each threw shutout innings for Hamden in relief.

Hamden had a strong eye at the plate, accumulating nine walks for the game. Tyler Kornacki and Perez led the team with two bases on balls each. Kyle Cyr and Devon McMorris each stole multiple bases for the Hamden Miners. Hamden stole six bases in the game. The Hamden Miners turned two double plays in the game. Hamden were sure-handed and didn't commit a single error. Perez made the most plays with five.

The Hamden Miners will travel to Newington to play 5 Star CT Committed 18U for their next game on Thursday.
