It simply wasn’t Hamden’s day as they dropped their home opener of the 2026 season to the Danbury LakeHounds 21-0 in five innings. The game was called early due to a mercy rule.
The damage was being done early as the LakeHounds tagged sophomore starter Sawyer Dimatteo for seven hits and 10 runs (five earned) in the first frame. Hamden relief gave up 11 more runs in the remaining four plus innings of work.
Right fielder Peyton Torre recorded the only total base for the Miners with his single in the bottom of the fourth. Danbury pitching kept the Hamden lineup at bay throughout the game.
An eight run third inning extended the Danbury onslaught as every starter in the lineup registered at least a base hit while eight of the nine starters drove in at least one run.
It’s going to have to be a flush of a matchup for Hamden as they are scheduled for three road games this week followed by four straight home games the following week.
The Miners will look to turn the page Tuesday night as they face the Waterbury Silverbacks on the road at Municipal Stadium.
