Meriden ousted Hamden in their Wednesday evening matchup by a final score of 7-3. The Riptide scored the game’s first five runs and never looked back on their way to a victory.
Senior starter Dylan Ellison pitched four innings for the Miners, allowing seven hits and five runs (four earned). Griffin McCarroll and Jack Lewis tossed three combined innings of relief, allowing just one earned run on two hits while striking out four.
Hamden’s runs came in the final two innings as they tried to dig out of a 7-0 hole. Charlie O’Brien recorded the Miners first run with an RBI on a fielder’s choice, allowing Devon McMorris to score. AJ Aurora knocked in John Onofrio with an RBI single in the seventh inning as Finn Matlosz scored on a wild pitch during Aurora’s at-bat.
Hamden’s bats started to come through eventually, however, there simply wasn’t enough game left to make a full comeback. The bottom of the order did most of the damage with the six through nine hitters combining for three hits, three walks and the team’s only RBI.
The Miners look to bounce back as the regular season winds down with a home matchup on Friday evening vs. the Waterbury Silverbacks.
