After grabbing a 3-2 lead heading into the bottom of the seventh, the Miners couldn’t quite close the door on the Sluggers as they fell short in eight innings 4-3.

Second baseman Rocco DeMaio got the scoring started for Hamden in the top of the first with his RBI double, driving in Devon McMorris to take an early 1-0 lead. This was the first of DeMaio’s two doubles for the day.

The fourth inning saw Hamden take a 2-1 lead after DeMaio stole third and had center fielder Kyle Cyr drive him in with a fielder’s choice. As the game was tied once again in the seventh inning, catcher John Diamond knocked in the go-ahead run as Nico DiGioia scored to give Hamden a 3-2 lead late.

Dylan Ellison delivered three innings of one run work for Hamden, striking out three and walking zero. Jack Lewis and the McCarroll brothers, Mason and Griffin, combined to allow one hit and zero earned runs in their four innings of relief.

Silk City tied the game in the bottom of the seventh with two outs before winning on a wild pitch in extras. Despite the loss, Hamden gave a good offensive showing with four extra base hits and three stolen bases.

Hamden will look for a win in their next matchup as they’re on the road versus the Waterbury Silverbacks Thursday evening.
