The Hamden Miners were defeated by the Simsbury Sabercats 6-2 on Wednesday night. This is the fourth straight matchup Hamden has dropped to open up their 2026 campaign.
The teams were knotted at one after the first inning of play with the Miners eventually taking the lead at the end of two. Center fielder Peyton Torre drove in Devon McMorris on a sacrifice fly while first baseman Matt West recorded an RBI single to put the Miners up early.
Simsbury responded by plating four runs in the top of the third, with two of those scoring via Hamden errors. Miners starter Dylan Ellison recorded six solid innings of work, giving up only three earned runs on the day. Freshman Matthew Mangini added a scoreless inning of work for Hamden.
The top of the Hamden lineup did most of the damage at the plate with Devon McMorris, Nico DiGioia and Peyton Torre combining for five hits in the loss. The three players also combined for four stolen bases on the day, with McMorris tallying two steals.
Hamden’s next game comes on Friday evening as they prepare to face the Silk City Sluggers at Henry Park. This is the team’s final road game before four consecutive home matchups starting next week.
