Tied at one apiece through the game’s first three innings, the Sailors pulled away with the contest in the last two innings, plating five runs in the fourth and fifth frames on their way to an 11-1 win over the Miners.

A combination of errors and a tough matchup on the mound accounted for the Hamden loss. West Haven starter Connor Hume pitched all five innings in the win. Hamden starter Quinn Bergin pitched four innings and struck out four.

Nico D’Amico was the lone Hamden batter to drive in a run with his RBI single in the bottom of the third. D’Amico’s base hit accounted for the only run that the Miners scored in the contest. John Diamond and Tyler Kornacki each recorded a double, Hamden’s only two extra base hits. Freshman outfielder Finn Matlosz recorded two hits in his two plate appearances in the loss.

The pitching staff did allow 11 runs, however, only three were earned in the matchup. A tough day on defense has Hamden in a tough spot as they must quickly rebound for their home matchup vs. Meriden on Wednesday evening.
