The Miners lost in walk off fashion to the Sailors Tuesday night by a final score of 4-3. Senior starting pitcher Dylan Ellison kept the Sailors bats at bay with 6 ⅓ innings of work, allowing zero earned runs and striking out five.
West Haven gained the early 1-0 lead, but Hamden grabbed it right back after junior Nico DiGioia drove home two runs with his RBI single in the top of the third inning. Matt West and John Onofrio scored the two runs to regain the lead.
After an error caused West Haven to tie the game in the third, the score remained knotted at two until the top of the sixth. Junior Kyle Cyr logged an RBI fielder’s choice to retake the lead late as Tyler DeCrescenzo scored.
A crucial error in the bottom of the sixth allowed West Haven to tie the game at three with an inning to play. Two more errors in the field and back-to-back walks in the bottom of the seventh allowed the Sailors to score the game winning run and grab the victory.
The Miners gear up for a game in their third consecutive day as they host the Bridgeport Barnums on Wednesday night.
