Hamden Downs Western Mass in Walk Off Fashion as Dimeo Plays Hero

The Miners entered their matchup vs. the Pioneers winless in June. That narrative changed after Hamden got the win in a wirejob through a walkoff single off the bat of Rocco DeMaio to grab the 4-3 victory.
Western Mass held a 2-0 lead after their three innings of work on offense. Tyler DeCrescenzo’s RBI sacrifice fly cut Hamden’s deficit in half as Devon McMorris scored. McMorris had quite the day for the Miners, scoring two runs, adding a single and double in four at-bats and stealing three bases.
Hamden tied the game at two in the bottom of the fifth after Luca Faulkner walked with the bases loaded to record an RBI. After the Pioneers regained the lead an inning later, AJ Aurora's clutch RBI sacrifice fly knotted the game at three with an inning left to play.
The Miners pitching staff threw consistent stuff all day; Jack Lewis started the game and supplied three innings while allowing two runs (both unearned) as Luke Ryan and Sawyer DiMatteo combined for four innings of relief while surrendering just one run.
A walk and single opened up the bottom of the seventh as the stage was set for DeMaio. His RBI single to drive home Nico DiGioia ended the game and gave Hamden a much needed win.
Hamden looks to build momentum from the thrilling victory as they prepare for a road matchup against Meriden Friday evening.
