Devon McMorris’ Big Day Propels Hamden Miners Past Southington Black Knights in Second Round of Playoffs

Devon McMorris collected three hits in four at bats, as the Hamden Miners defeated the Southington Black Knights 13-6. McMorris doubled in the fourth inning, singled in the second inning, and singled in the sixth inning.

The
Black Knights opened the scoring in the first after Brady Aylward hit a solo home run to center field.

In the top of the second inning, Hamden went back into the lead after Tyler Kornacki grounded into a fielder's choice, Noah Greco grounded into a fielder's choice, Kyler Cyr grounded into a fielder's choice, Darren Gasparri hit a sacrifice fly, and Nico DiGioia singled to left field, each scoring one run.

Hamden scored five runs on three hits in the top of the seventh inning. DiGioia singled, scoring two runs, and Kornacki doubled, scoring three runs.

Dylan Ellison earned the win for Hamden. The hurler surrendered four hits and three runs over five innings, striking out three and walking none.

The Miners accumulated 11 hits in the game. Kornacki went 1-for-3 at the plate and led the team with four runs batted in. Ryan Kolodziejczyk and DiGioia each collected multiple hits for Hamden. Gasparri and Kornacki led the team with two walks each. Hamden didn't commit a single error in the field. Kolodziejczyk had the most chances in the field with nine.

Hamden will face Waterbury next in the playoffs.
